On the mechanisms for double ionization: a study of (e, 3 - 1e) experiments on argon

The recent double-ionization experiments (e, 3 - 1e) on argon by electron impact are, for the first time, investigated theoretically. Simple qualitative models and more elaborate theoretical calculations are proposed and discussed in order to understand the mechanism of double ionization at high electron impact.
