Abstract
- Research is being conducted at IC to investigate the characteristics of acoustic wave propagation in buried iron water mains. The hope is that a better understanding will lead to improvements in leak location techniques. This paper describes a novel technique to evaluate in situ acoustic properties of soils that surround a pipe. Predicted wave propagation characteristics incorporating our measured soil properties are presented and compared to experimental results.
