Abstract: There has been heightened interest in using biopolymers in recent years due to the increasing concern with the sustainability of using petroleum-based polymers. This chapter reviews the current effort of chemically modifying various natural polymers obtained from renewable sources into useful products and of synthesizing biopolymers through polymerization of bio-monomers. Biopolymer blends, biocomposites and the future of bioplastic products are briefly discussed.
