Abstract

Kios was a Greek colonial city in northwestern Asia Minor (modern Gemlik). It was founded, according to Greek historians, in 626/5 bce by colonists from Miletos in what was then Mysia; local and literary myths, however, attributed the foundation to Herakles (or Polyphemos) when he accompanied the Argonauts.
