Abstract

The records of 246 gynecologic cancer patients who received urinary conduit diversions at the M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute between the years of 1954 and 1969 were reviewed. Indications for diversion were for treatment of pelvic malignancy and treatment of urologic complications of cancer therapy. Postoperative and urologic complications in the short- and long-term follow-up periods were evaluated and related to multiple preoperative factors. In critically analyzing these data, an attempt was made to answer the following questions: Do patients benefit from urinary diversion? Does significant harm come to patients with conduit diversion?
