Abstract

Inelastic neutron scattering measurements of the magnetic excitations in YbNi2B2C are presented. Measurements on a polycrystalline sample of YbNi2B2C reveal an energy spectrum that is broad and extends above 150 meV. Three inelastic peaks are observed in the data, centred at energies of 3 meV, 17 meV and 43 meV. Measurements on single crystals show that the intensity of the scattering is Q dependent. A possible interpretation of the data in terms of broadened crystal field transitions is proposed.
