The 3rd, fully updated and expanded edition of this textbook shows, among other things, how technology assessment (TA) contributes in a forward-looking and participatory way to the responsible, democratic and sustainable shaping of technological progress, which is profoundly and rapidly changing life, society and the environment. Digitalization, energy transition and genetic engineering are some example fields in this respect. Climate change and dependence on resources are just as much a part of this as the social consequences of automation and surveillance. The book explains, among other things, the historical development of TA and addresses theory formation and debates.
