Anti dinuclear adducts of cycloheptatriene and cycloheptatrienyl ligands: Anti-[Pd2(μ-C7H8)(PPh3)4][BF4]2 and anti-[M2(μ-C7H7)(PPh3)4][BF4] (M = Pd, Pt)

Abstract

The reaction of a dinuclear palladium complex [Pd2(CH3CN)6][BF4]2 with cycloheptatriene (CHT) in the presence of triphenylphosphine afforded an anti dinuclear addition product, anti-[Pd2(μ-C7H8)(PPh3)4][BF4]2. Deprotonation of the CHT ligand in the dinuclear CHT complex gave a mixed-valence cycloheptatrienyl (Tr) complex, anti-[Pd2(μ-C7H7)(PPh3)4][BF4]2. A platinum congener of the dinuclear Tr complex was also synthesized by the double addition of Pt0(PPh3)2 moieties to [C7H7][BF4].
