Transcutaneous and Transconjunctival Surgical Approaches to the Orbit

There are numerous indications for performing surgery in the orbit, including repair of orbital fractures, biopsy or excision of orbital tumors, drainage of orbital abscesses, and orbital decompression. Anterior orbitotomy can be performed through both transconjunctival and transcutaneous approaches. Commonly utilized approaches include the inferior conjunctival fornix incision, the transcaruncular incision, lateral canthotomy and cantholysis, and the upper eyelid crease incision.
