Equity research in quality improvement initiatives: a scoping review

Although equity is one of the core aims of the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) measurement of health care quality, it has not received as much attention due to its novelty and complexity. However, a high-quality healthcare system cannot allow everyone to reach their full health potential without achieving equity. Providing more equity-oriented care increases patients’ confidence in preventing and managing their health problems, leading to increased quality of life, decreased chronic pain disability, and improved mental health.
