Abstract

An effective method of tuning the frequency of magnetron is studied in this article. The frequency-agile technique is based on changing the structure of the resonator by tuning elements. First, the working principle of this frequency-agile technique for changing an anode structure is proposed and simulation analysis suggested the good performance of this device. Next, a 3-D particle-in-cell simulation analysis is implemented to predict a frequency-adjustable magnetron with an output power of 2 kW, a mode separation of 50%, an efficiency of 67.7%, a bandwidth of 65 MHz, and a sinusoidal modulated signal. It was found in an experiment that our proposed prototype magnetron has a tunable bandwidth which meets with the simulation results. This effective method has a great potential for application in the frequency-agile magnetron.
