Nos ancêtres les Gaulois?

Die vorliegende Arbeit präsentiert eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der französischen Schul- und Kulturpolitik hinsichtlich seiner départements d’outre-mer. Nachdem Frankreich lange an einer Assimilationspolitik festhielt, wurden mit der Einführung des Bulletin National N°8 du 24 février im Jahr 2000 die Lehrpläne des Geschichts- und Geographieunterrichts in den französischen DROM erstmals an die lokalen Gegebenheiten angepasst. Am Beispiel Martinique wird untersucht, inwiefern die Umsetzung dieser Reformen gelungen ist und inwieweit der Landeskundeunterricht auf den französischen Antillen den Bedürfnissen der Schüler*innen gerecht wird. Zu diesem Zweck wurde eine schriftliche Befragung mit Studierenden der Université des Antilles am Standort Schœlcher auf Martinique durchgeführt. Zudem wurden Interviews mit Geschichts- und Geographielehrer*innen vor Ort abgehalten, um die professionelle Sichtweise der Lehrenden einzubeziehen. Alle Ergebnisse dieser empirischen Studie, sowie ihre Implikationen werden in der Arbeit dargestellt und diskutiert.
This paper is concerned with the French culture and education policy and addresses the issue of culturally specific history and geography teaching in the French overseas departments. It was only in 2000 that France adapted its national curriculum for history and geography teaching to the specific conditions in its former colonies with the Bulletin National N°8 du 24 février. By discussing the example of Martinique, this paper aims to examine how successfully this reform has been put into practice and tries to determine whether culturally specific history and geography teaching is an educational fact in the French overseas departments. Therefore, an empirical study was conducted. It includes a written questionnaire carried out with students from the University of the Antilles, as well as interviews with Martinican history and geography teachers. All the insights gained of this survey and their implications will be discussed in this paper.
