Abstract: The phenomenon of polyembryony in insects was first recognized by Marchal (1898) in the chalcidoid family Encyrtidae. This large family of small, solitary egg–larval endoparasitoids includes 460 genera, two of which exhibit polyembryony: Ageniaspis and Copidosoma (Ivanova-Kasas 1972).
