Abstract
- Ca-doped Bi-YIG films were prepared by RF-sputtering, and their magnetic and magnetooptical properties in the visible wavelength region have been investigated. The films were deposited on vitreous SiO/sub 2/ and Corning 7059 glass substrates at 400 degrees C. The sputtering was conducted with an Ar pressure of 6.7 Pa, a deposition rate of 3.3 nm/min, and a RF-power density of 2.5 W/cm/sup 2/. The deposited films annealed in air at 500 approximately 700 degrees C were determined to be the garnet phase, and they showed large saturation magnetizations greater than 100 emu/cm/sup 3/. The magnetization of Ca doped films was constant in the range of Ca ratio x=0.0 approximately 1.0; however, the theta /sub F/ decreased with x in the same composition range. It was found that the theta /sub F/ of Bi/sub 2/YCaFe/sub y/O/sub 12/ films increased, while the M/sub s/ of the films decreased, in the composition range of y=3.5 approximately 5.0. >
