Abstract
- A common complication in patients with advanced cirrhosis is acute renal failure (ARF), most common being prerenal failure. Among renal or intrinsic causes, IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) is one of the non-infectious glomerulonephritis. IgAN associated with alcoholic liver cirrhosis is the most common secondary IgAN. Alcoholic liver cirrhosis, is associated with disorders of IgA immune system. IgAN is usually asymptomatic but can rarely present as nephrotic syndrome and end stage renal failure. We present a case of young male with alcoholic liver cirrhosis and secondary IgAN presenting unusually as nephrotic syndrome with acute renal failure.
