Abstract
- In this paper, we propose an electric power steering (EPS) system architecture combined with an electronic stability control (ESC) system to ensure functional safety of the EPS system. In IS026262, a standard pertaining to the functional safety of road vehicles, the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) is classified according to the safety required for a vehicle's electrical and electronics systems. The cost and effort required during the development process to meet the high ASIL requirements have increased considerably. Therefore, we present an example application in which ASIL decomposition is used to assign a lower ASIL to the EPS system in the proposed system architecture. In addition, we validate and demonstrate the performance of the proposed functionally stable EPS system via simulation.
