Abstract

We investigate a fully microscopic treatment of fluctuations in hot rotating nuclei, based on the static path approximation to the partition function and the saddle point method for the angular momentum and particle number projection. Shape and orientation fluctuations for fixed spin and particle number are in this way microscopically derived. Results are shown for 152 Dy with a quadrupole-quadrupole interaction, where the full treatment with orientation fluctuations and tilted rotations is compared with the principal axes approximation and also with the standard treatment involving a fixed value of the frequency and chemical potentials.
