Abstract

The increased consumption of petroleum resources around the world has encouraged research on the development of alternative binders with similar rheological properties to bituminous binders. In this study, poppy capsule pulp-based bio-oil was added to bitumen at 1, 3, 5, 7, 9%, and bitumen tests were carried out. Stone mastic asphalt (SMA) mixtures with the Marshall design were used for the wearing layer with 3% bio-oil added to the bitumen specimens, and the results were compared to the control SMA. The results showed that the SMA produced using 3% bio-oil additive exhibited similar behavior to the conventional SMA specimens.
