Abstract

A new method to estimate the linewidth for a single vacancy for 3d elements by the use of the asymmetry index is proposed and applied to re-evaluate previous experimental data for chromium and its compounds. The chemical effect on the width of Kα1,2 lines and Coster–Kronig transitions is studied and their relation to the electronic structures is discussed. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
