Abstract
- DNA typing using trace DNA poses a significant challenge for forensic science. To test whether whole genome amplification (WGA) technology could resolve this problem, we first evaluated the efficiency of WGA technology for DNA using the MALBAC® Single-cell DNA Kit to amplify trace DNA and the Goldeneyeâ„¢ DNA ID System to genotype short tandem repeats (STRs). The amplified DNA yield and the STR-typing success rate were then assessed. The DNA yield was found to increase more than 200-fold following WGA. Moreover, the STR-typing success rate using the amplified DNA with a template
