Abstract

Using a fast neutron time-of-flight spectrometer the angular distributions of seven neutron groups leading to the ground state and the 1.63, 4.25, 4.97, 5.63, 5.80 and 6.75 MeV levels of Ne 20 have been measured at mean deuteron energies of 2.51, 2.61, 3.04 and 3.31 MeV. Only the neutron group to the 6.75 MeV level shows a clear stripping pattern at all energies, and it can be fitted with l = 0. The other angular distributions vary rapidly with energy and cannot be explained by plane wave stripping. The dimensionless stripping reduced width of the 6.75 MeV level at a bombarding energy of 3.31 MeV is θ 2 = 0.012. It is compared to the theoretical predictions of the unified model, along with the results of other experimenters.
