Abstract
- Recent advances in microbial ecology have incited research on rhizosphere microflora under the effect of improved crop variety. Effects have often been assessed with the use of culture-dependent and culture-independent methods, but these usually delude the conclusions of evaluation due to improper hypothesis and redundant use of DNA fingerprinting methods. In view of our incomplete knowledge of the microbial communities and processes in plant-soil systems, recent technological and conceptual improvements do offer a way forward. We propose a framework that encompasses both, a sensible selection of process and general parameters for assessing the impact of improved crop variety on rhizosphere microorganisms.
