Abstract

AS PART of an investigation into the general problem of fat metabolism in poultry nutrition, an experiment was carried out to determine whether it would be feasible to incorporate herring oil into laying rations. In an experiment to determine the effect of feeding varying amounts of fat to laying birds, Heywang (1943) fed White Leghorn pullets all-mash rations containing 0.8, 2.8, 4.8, and 8.8 percent of fat respectively. Corn oil was used to vary the fat content of the rations. There was no significant difference in the egg production of the hens fed the different levels of fat. The pullets receiving supplementary corn oil in the diet maintained a greater average weight than those receiving the low fat basal diet. Lillie et al.
