Abstract

Early-onset behavioural difficulties are common in children and, for some, can be associated with significant long-term social, emotional, and academic difficulties. There is promising early evidence that low intensity parent interventions including guided self-help or self-administered parent learning approaches are effective in promoting positive nurturing parent–child relationships and confident parenting as well as in increasing children’s social and emotional competence and reducing common behaviour problems. Further research is needed to understand which families and children may benefit from low intensity interventions and how to optimize effective delivery to ensure prevention of future antisocial child behaviour into adolescence and beyond.
