Abstract

Because the emergency department usually has the problem of overcrowding, the management of visitors has become a thorny problem. Besides, the patients who come to the emergency department at first time have a confusion of geographical direction. To overcome this issue, we implemented an indoor navigation system by using the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology and smartphone. The system has three major features, such as indoor location, indoor navigation, and physician-patient communication. The experimental results revealed that the proposed localization algorithm achieved 1.48-meter average error. By the proposed indoor navigation system, the problem of getting lost in the emergency department could be alleviated. Besides, the individual communication platform provides the patients and medical practitioners have convenient and private communication channels.
