Abstract

This paper describes a real time gesture recognition system that can be used in an automobile environment to control mobile devices while driving. By using this, the requirement of the driver's attention towards his mobile phone decreases considerably. The gestures from the user are captured using MYO sensors from Thalmic Labs. An android application is installed in the user mobile to communicate with the MYO sensor through Bluetooth. Various functions in mobile phones can be performed such as, music control, call controls and navigation using the sensor. Tests and studies were conducted to monitor the feasibility of the MYO to capture gestures inside vehicles while driving.
