Abstract

Combined Raman, Brillouin and ultrasonic measurements have recently shown the existence, in salol, of a dynamical transition near 260 K. This transition is marked by a weak cusp in the non-ergodicity parameter, ƒ0(T), of the mode coupling theory. In parallel, we have also performed a neutron study of the Mibemol time-of-flight spectrometer at the LLB (Saclay). Measurements of the quasi-elastic scattering are presented which also reflect the occurrence of a transition, revealing a cusp in the same temperature range as the Raman and Brillouin results, thus providing further confirmation of the mode coupling theory.
