Abstract

We present measurements of the thermal conductivity of polycrystalline Pr 2 Cu 1− x Zn x O 4 (0⩽ x ⩽0.02) in the temperature range 6–300 K. The thermal conductivity is found to increase with Zn substitution up to x =0.005 but to decrease with Zn concentration when x >0.005. This behaviour is attributed to the strong interaction of phonons with spin excitations.
