Abstract

The transition-metal oxide NaCo/sub 2/O/sub 4/ is a layered oxide in which CoO/sub 2/ and Na alternately stack along the c axis. Recently we have found that this compound shows large thermopower with low resistivity which are comparable to those of Bi/sub 2/Te/sub 3/. The negative transverse magnetoresistance and the strongly temperature-dependent Hall coefficient suggest that electron correlation dominates the conduction mechanism in NaCo/sub 2/O/sub 4/.
