Abstract

A good yield of 5‐(N‐phenethylamino)salicylic acid derivatives was successfully obtained from the corresponding methyl 2‐acetoxy‐5‐(N‐phenethylamino)benzoate esters by rapid and selective reduction of the amide group in the acyl protected salicylic acid with NaBH4/acetic acid in dioxane followed by hydrolysis of the ester group.
