Abstract

Residual interventricular communicationwas echocardiographicallydetected in12patients (37.5%)postoperatively. Among them, 2patients required re-closurewithin 30days and5patients in laterperiod.Preoperativehaemodynamic instability was a risk factor for early mortality (p< 0.001). One-year, 5-year and 10-year survival was 69.8%, 64.8% and54.0%, respectively.Residual interventricular communication was a significant risk factor to survival in the late period (p< 0.05). Conclusions: Surgical intervention is particularly important for patient survival in post-infarction VSR. Reintervention for residual interventricular communications would further improve surgical outcomes. doi:10.1016/j.hlc.2010.04.114
