Abstract
- Simplified models of the dynamics of mosquito populations are reviewed and developed. Parameters used to develop the models include survival in the adult and immature stages, patterns of egg laying and number of eggs, development times, and population density curves. With this approach, it was possible to estimate growth rates of naturally-occurring populations of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus Say and Anopheles albimanus Wiedemann when subjected to control by the release of sterile males. Maximum growth rates attained during release experiments were confirmed by independent biological evaluations.
