Abstract

Magnetic susceptibility of n- and p-type CdTe was measured from 4.2 to 290°K. The o bserved susceptibility consists of the diamagnetic susceptibility of the lattice and the param agnetic susceptibility of defects. The paramagnetic component is temperature independent and reaches 10% of the measured value. On the basis of the results obtained on crystals grown under different conditions and subjected to different thermal treatment, the conclusion is drawn that the observed paramagnetism is the Van-Vleck paramagnetism of donor–acceptor complexes.
