Abstract

Transition from inclusive education to inclusive employment proves evasive for people with disabilities, especially youth with complex communication needs (CCN). This chapter explores the plight of youth with CCN to be included in employment for their own well-being. The study that informed this chapter focused on a purposive sample of 8 youth ranging between the ages from 19 to 35 years. Data collection was conducted through individual interviews and direct participation and analyzed using a six-phased thematic analysis where two themes were solicited, being: Life stories—living with limited communication and exposure to life and working. Generally, participants strongly indicated a need to them to be included in employment, they yearn for exposure to life and opportunities that will allow them to identify opportunities for working.
