Roles for transforming growth factor-α and transforming growth factor-ß in colorectal cancer

This review cites some of the notable advances in the last several years in our understanding of the roles of transforming growth factor (TGF)-α and TGF-s in neoplasia in general and colorectal cancer in particular. We have chosen to concentrate on advances that have been made in the treatment of colorectal cancer by pharmacologic blockade of the epidermal growth factor receptor axis and new insights into TGF-s signaling in colorectal cancer.
