Abstract

A series of metallic-supramolecular ionic networks (MSINs) with Fe + 2 /Ni + 2 /Cu + 2 /Zn + 2 , ceftriaxone and dodecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB) have been prepared and studied in aqueous and solid both states. In aqueous state the potential of pure individual solutions of Fe + 2 /Ni + 2 /Cu + 2 /Zn + 2 , ceftriaxone, DTAB, Fe + 2 /Ni + 2 /Cu + 2 /Zn + 2 + DTAB and Fe + 2 /Ni + 2 /Cu + 2 /Zn + 2 + DTAB + ceftriaxone were measured, and variations inferred their ionic interaction. For solid MSINs the same interaction has been analysed with FTIR where changes in intensity of IR peaks have been observed. The free radical scavenging activity (FRSA) of individual (metal ions, ceftriaxone, DTAB) on complexion (metal ions + ceftriaxone + DTAB) has been assessed with 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) in solid and aqueous both states. All MSINs have shown good antioxidant activity measured via potentiometric titration where decrease in potential was made a criterion for attributing their activity similar to spectrophotometric method. The solid MSINs have also been screened for against Gram − ve ( E. coli ; ATCC 25922) and + ve ( Staphylococcus aureus ; ATCC 33591) bacterial strains where they have shown good response. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of prepared MSINs show their medicinal importance.
