Abstract

Didymella proximella is reclescribed and illustrated from collections on Carex californien from Mary's Peak. Oregon. The Oregon specimens match the type of D. proximella from Finland. Ascostromata of D. proximella and pyenidia of a Stagonospora species were found on overwintered C. califomica in Oregon; ascospores yielded the same Stagonospora on agar. This species of Stagonosporc is morphologically distinct from Stagonospora stricta and the presence of ascostromata of D. proximella with pyenidia of S. stricta on the same lesions in the type of S. stricta is fortuitous.
