Abstract

The term malignant mixed Mullerian tumor (MMMT) implies a mixed malignant tumor that exhibits both malignant epithelial and mesenchymal elements. The most widely accepted hypothesis about the histogenesis of MMMT is that it originates from stem cells, which are present in almost all tissues and may generate different cellular lineages by a multistep process termed “differentiation.” Most MMMTs would be better considered as metaplastic carcinomas. 1 It is of interest to note that most lymph node metastases reflect the carcinomatous component. As a group, the incidences of MMMTs are very low and most frequently occur in the female genital tract. The primary MMMT of the fallopian tube is the least common site in the female genital system.
