Abstract

There is no doubt that teaching is possible without the benefit of teacher education programs and the study of the educational foundations disciplines (psychology, philosophy, history, and sociology). While the theoretical propositions in the foundations courses have some problematic relationships with classroom teaching practices, there is also no doubt that teachers who are unfamiliar with these propositions make serious mistakes in pedagogy and educational policy. The outline of a good collective theory from the foundations disciplines is set out as a goal for improving the way teachers think about their practice.
