Abstract

The article looks at the question of minimizing economic risks in communities of Old Believer pilgrims. The research is bound to refine the dependence between interpretations of the eschatological concept of “hermitage” and the confessional and economic strategies and practices chosen by the religious group. These aspects in history of Old Belief are revealed in materials of criminal proceedings, polemic writings by pilgrims, and field studies of social and anthropological nature.
