Abstract

This article deals with the income differential between four demographic groups in Guatemala: indigenous women, indigenous men, non–indigenous women and non–indigenous men. Specifically, the non–observable component of the income differential, is analyzed in accordance with the Oaxaca–Blinder model, component has been identified as discrimination. It is concluded, that the largest income difference is caused by discrimination against women in general, and specially, against non–indigenous women who, in spite of having similar levels of education and experience as those of both indigenous and non–indigenous males, receive lower average incomes.
