The results from the analysis of organic and mineral fractions of three Andalusian composts are discussed. These materials have high contents of organic matter and satisfactorily low contents of potentially toxic non essential elements. However, the excessive levels of some essential micronutrients may be toxic to plants. It is suggested that the data from chemical analysis must be correlated with field experiments before heavy applications of compost to agricultural land.
