Abstract

The continuous increase of electric demand , the necessity to establish and integrate renewable energy sources in the power mix and the momentum of European energy operators to create a consolidated European energy market ,has created the need to expand the European energy grid ,with the construction of new transmission lines. The aim of this this project is to estimate the cost of the transmission lines that are planned to be constructed in Europe in the next ten years, so stakeholders can understand the magnitude and the objective of these projects. This bachelor thesis presents a technical-economic analysis of the different type of transmission technologies that are going to be assembled ,all over Europe, in the near future.From the conventional HVAC over head lines, to the cutting edge technology of VSC based HVDC lines.The basics of these technologies will be studied in order to understand and create the different cost models that are going to be used. Some of the models will be gathered from reports and studies and then expanded, in order to adapt the models to the European scene, while other models will be self-made using regression methods. In the purpose of studying the future European power grid, the information presented by ENTSO-E on the Ten Year Network Development Plan 2018, will be taken in account.Cost models will be applied to each of the published projects in TYNDP2018 using a self made algorithm that is based cost models to the information obtained from TYNDP2018
