Barzan (Charente-Maritime): two Examples of Virtual Enhancement

Since 1998, the Barzan site (Charente maritime) has become the setting of a training yard managed by A. Bouet, for the university of Bordeaux 3. The uncovering of a complete bath building complex and a well supplying it with water led to initiate two programmes of research requiring virtual reality. The first process consists in studying the timbers of the well with the help of 3D digitization for every noteworthy component. The second approach leads from the scientific study to a 3D restoration of the public baths and fits into a video-tape meant for a larger circulation.
Le site antique de Barzan (Charente-Maritime) sert de cadre, depuis 1998, au chantier-école de l’Université de Bordeaux 3, dirigé par A. Bouet. La mise au jour d’un ensemble thermal complet et du puits servant à son alimentation en eau a donnée lieu à deux programmes de recherches qui font appel à la réalité virtuelle. La première démarche qui consiste en une étude des bois du puits, utilise la technique nouvelle de la numérisation en 3D de toutes les pièces remarquables. La seconde propose une restitution virtuelle en 3D des thermes, à partir de l’étude scientifique, dans le cadre d’une vidéo destinée au grand public.
