The nature and dating of Republican camps at Lautagne (Valence) through small finds

International audience; This article provides a first clue on the nature and dating of Republican camps excavated at Lautagne, on the heights of Valence in the mid-Rhône valley. Revealed by first explorations of the site in 2011, the camps were excavated by different teams between 2011-2016 ; this contribution reflects the results of the works done in 2013-2015 by Mosaïques-Archéologie. The structures uncovered on 13,7 ha concern 3 camps established on the same site during the second quarter of the 1st c. BC. As each camp was thoroughly destroyed before the army's departure, the finds are relatively scarce but highly significant of the daily life in military context during the late Republic. Finds discussed here include weapons, tools, various utensils (personal, footwear) as well as personal belongings which tell us about the origin (central eastern Alps ?) of some of the soldiers.
