Esclavitud y Libertad: el dilema de los caucanos republicanos

In this article the abolition of slavery in the New Granada is studied. In it a pursuit of the ways that followed the southern slaves of the new republican State to reach the liberty is done. Also the opposition of the dominant sectors is studied, particularly the mining sector and the landowner of the old Province of Popayan, to every measure that sought the liberty of the slaves denouncing that the freed did not take advantage that offered the republican system and that they would be dedicated to insurgent practices that would finish in the racial war.//En este artículo se estudia la abolición de la esclavitud en la Nueva Granada. En él se hace un seguimiento de los caminos que siguieron los esclavos del sur del nuevo Estado republicano para alcanzar la libertad. También se estudia la oposición de los sectores dominantes, en particular el sector minero y hacendatario de la antigua Gobernación de Popayán, a toda medida que buscara la libertad de los esclavos denunciando que los libertos no aprovechaban las ventajas que ofrecía el sistema republicano y se dedicarían a prácticas insurgentes que terminarían en la guerra racial.
