Political Hebraism in Leviathan: Hobbes on Abrahamic and Sinai Covenants
- Publication Year :

Abstract
- The paper discusses the status of Abrahamic and Sinai covenants in Hobbes's philiosophia civilis. The author tries to show that Hobbes, on the one hand, designates the prophetic Kingdom of God as a state by institution. On the other, Hobbes's argument is leaning towards its identification with the state by acquisition. In the final part of the paper, author offers possible reasons as to why Hobbes decided to interpret Old Testament covenants and the Kingdom of God they engendered in such a puzzling way.
