Abstract

Long term sea wave activity can lead to erosion at the bottom part of the cliff while the upper part still stands forming a console. In this paper the stability of console slope loaded with traffic is analyzed. Rock mass called breccias is classified according to the RMR rock classification to obtain the GSI parameter. Numerical analyses of the slope is performed using finite element computer software Plaxis 2D to define stress distribution in the rock and relevant rock strength. Failure mechanism of the slope is defined for two critical soil strength distribution using phi-c reduction procedure. The stability of the console slope formation is calculated knowing the failure mechanism and stress and strength distribution at the failure planes. The slope is stabilized combining anchor and micro pile elements that can ensure slope stability even for one meter of further erosion.
