European Union Citizenship and its Relation to the State Citizenship

Abstract
- At the end of the 20th century concept of citizenship, always observed in the contest of modern state, appeared in the new legal order – law of the European Union. On 1th January 1993, 350 000 000 Europeans got this de iure new legal status. Author tried to apply the theory of citizenship on this new legal institute and to compare the features of the classical concept of citizenship with the features of the European Union citizenship. It is very interested to mention the relation between European Union citizenship and national citizenship, because just 8% of the European Union population use the rights attributed by European citizenship.At the outset author describes the theory of citizenship in a general, while in the second part of the article he applies this theory to the citizenship of the European Union. Author also analyses the relation between European citizenship and national citizenship. The article is concise and gives critical review of a European citizenship and analyses specific segments of this problems.
