Abstract

Elevated serum creatinine is the usual marker of impaired renal function. Testing the clearance of Technetium DTPA allows the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measuring. The low molecular weight protein cystatin C produced by cells within body and eliminated by glomerular filtration has been suggested as an indicator of GFR.In the group of 81 children (aged 0.04 to 14 years), cystatin C, creatinine and GFR by DTPA clearance were measured. DAKO Cystatin C kit was used for determination of cystatin C on an Olympus AU 600 analyzer. GFR ranged from 60-145 ml/min.
